on the whole，as a whole用法及区别

这两个词组的词义有点接近，但也有细微的差异。

on the whole表示“大体上”、“基本上”、“整体上”。例：

Your thesis is well-done on the whole.

你的论文基本上写得不错。

My opinion，on the whole，is the same as yours.

我的意见大体上和你的相同。On the whole I agree to your proposal.

我基本上同意你的建议。

as a whole表示“从整个来看”、“就全体而言”、“总括而论”。例：

I analyzed his words as a whole.

我是把他的言论作为一个整体来分析的。

We must look at the educational problem as a whole.

我们必须从整体的角度来考虑教育问题。

The climate of China，as a whole，is mild.

总体而论，中国的气候是温和的。

on the whole和as a whole在句中的语序比较灵活，既可放在句末，也可放在句首和句子的中部。
