one…the other，the one…the other用法及区别

这一对词组都用于指两样事物的场合，但含义有所不同。

one…the other是“一个……另一个……”；the one…the other是“前者……后者……”，相当于the former…the latter。

试对比它们在下列的不同内涵和使用场合：

I have two sisters；one is twenty and the other is eighteen.

我有两个妹妹，一个是20岁，另一个是18岁。

Both my sisters are abroad；one in Burma and the other in Indonesia.

我的两个妹妹都在国外，一个在缅甸，另一个在印尼。

We have two cats，a white one and a black one；the one is larger than the other.

我有两只猫，一只白的和一只黑的，白的比黑的那只长得大。

值得注意的是，the one现在是指前者，the other是指后者，而从前却恰好颠倒过来，the one指后者，the other指前者。
